Commodore Bainimarama
Chiefs on the island of Kadavu in Fiji have expressed their support for the Bainimarama administration urging the Prime Minister to continue after 2014 if reforms of government are completed by then.
The expression of support was conveyed as the island traditionally welcomed the Fijian leader Commodore Frank Bainimarama and his government delegation to the chiefly village of Tavuki.
During a talanoa session with the villagers, Commodore Bainimarama said his week long tour of the province was merely to talk about development project for the province.
The Commander also used the opportunity to explain reasons for the military coups of 1987 and 2000.
He said the military takeover of 1987 was carried out to develop Fiji and the people that were in power used the coup for their own benefit.
In the 2000 takeover, where a number of soldiers lost their lives, Commodore Bainimarama assured that the military will never forget their fellow comrades who died.
He reiterated that national elections will be held in 2014 and called on the people of Kadavu to support government’s plan.
Anyone who does not support government reforms must step aside, Commodore Bainimarama warned.
He told the people and chiefs of Kadavu that he appointed four military colonels to the positions of divisional Commissioners because he wanted rapid development in the country.
In response, the Tui Tavuki Ratu Jone Dukete conveyed the support of people of Kadavu to the government of the day.
