Fiji Government MP Sharma bailed over alleged domestic violence

The 41-year old Fiji Government Member of Parliament who is allegedly involved in a case of domestic violence has been granted bail.
 
Rohit Ritesh Sharma was produced at the Nasinu Magistrates Court this morning.
 
Sharma is charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.
 
It is alleged that he assaulted his wife on Sunday at their home in Davuilevu Housing.
 
Bail has been set at $1,000 (US$500) with two sureties at $500 each (US$250).
 
The charge was read to Sharma and understood by the offender.
 
The Magistrates has issued an interim restraining order whereby Sharma is ordered not to re-commit the same offense.
 
The MP has also being ordered to surrender his traveling documents and not to interfere with the prosecution witnesses.
 
The Magistrates also told Sharma’s lawyer she doesn’t want to know what Sharma does for a living.
 
This was after the defense requested to change the day at which Sharma has to report to police in a week.
 
The Magistrate reconsiders the request as Sharma has to attend meetings for MP’s on Saturday’s.
 
The prosecution did not object to bail.
 
The court heard that the complainant who is the 35-year old wife wishes to remain in contact with the accused.
 
Sharma will report to the Nakasi Police Station every Sunday.
 
The next hearing date will be on the 13 October, 2020.
