03:49 am GMT+12, 08/04/2021, Fiji

Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and his wife received their COVID-19 jab today.

During any disaster, Bainimarama is one of the first on the frontlines helping Fijians.

“My wife, Mary, and I were proud to sit for our COVID-19 vaccines this morning. We both feel great.

These vaccines are more than a shot in the arm — they are an injection of hope. Being vaccinated is our duty to keep our loved ones safe and set Fiji on the path to recovery,” Bainimarama said on twitter .

Approximately 50,000 people are eligible to receive the two-dose vaccines for the next phase of COVID-19 vaccinations which begins on Tuesday this week.

According to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services this group includes the rest of the frontline staff at the borders, all healthcare workers (including those in private healthcare), police and military officers, tourism and hotel workers, and civil servants.
