Fiji’s Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum in capital Suva today.
Fiji’s administration has announced the members of the newly appointed Media Industry Development Authority.

The announcement was made Fiji’s Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum in capital Suva today.

The Media Industry Development Authority will be chaired by Professor Subramani replacing Dr Satendra Nandan who has pulled out for health reasons, Mr Khaiyum said.

The others members include Solicitor  General Christopher Pryde, Asilika Uluilakeba representing the interest of Children, Jimaima Schultz  representing the interest of the consumers in particular nutrition, Peni Moore representing the interest of women and Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) Manager and Training Coordinator, Matai Akauola representing the interest of the media industry.

Meanwhile, Mr Khaiyum has clarified there will be no extension of the deadline given to Fiji Times newspaper to sell 90 percent of its shares.

The Fiji Times is 100 percent owned by News Limited and 28 September is the deadline for the media outlets to only have 10 percent foreign shares under the media decree now in force.

“The decree already in place, the three months deadline still stands,” Mr Khaiyum said.

He said the Fiji government has no interest in buying the Fiji Times, if no buyer is found when the deadline ended.

“No, that’s obviously all being taken into consideration,”.
