BKM party confirms 22 members

The chairperson of Kiribati’s new political party, Boutokaan Kiribati Moa Party (BKM), Tessie Eria Lambourne, says the party currently has 22 MPs.
 
They are Pinto Katia of Makin, Tinian Reiher of Butaritari, Dr Kautu Tenaua of Abaiang, Shiu Fung Jong of South Tarawa, Harry Tekaiti of North Tarawa, Terieta Mwemwenikeaki of North Tarawa, Koraubati Remuera of Maiana, Vincent Tong of Maiana, Banuera Berina of Kuria, Tessie Eria Lambourne of Abemama, Bonteman Tabera of Nonouti, Ieremia Tabai of Nonouti, Taberannang Timeon of Tabiteuea North, Batoromaio Kiritian of Beru, England Iuta of Beru, Teima Onorio of Arorae, Tibanga Taratai of Banaba, Bakaia Kiabo of Christmas, Jacob Tieikabu Teem of Christmas, Tekiau Aretateta of Fanning, Tewaaki Kobae of Fanning and Nantongo Timeon of Washington.
 
Meanwhile, the new Parliament Speaker has said she will perform her duties in accordance with parliamentary rules and procedures.
 
Tangariki Reete made the statement during a dinner reception hosted by Parliament in Ambo on Friday.
 
In her congratulatory remarks, Lambourne said MPs created history when they elect the first female Speaker.
 
Chairman of the ruling Tobwaan Kiribati Party Tekeeua Tarati said they too supported the new speaker despite their differences.
 
He said MPs are ready to work closely with the new speaker and expect her to be independent and neutral in her decisions in parliament.
