Cook Islands censured by the ILO
11:08 pm GMT+12, 11/07/2017, Cook Islands

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has censured the Cook Islands government for not meeting its full obligations to the United Nations agency.

The ILO's Credentials Committee has complained that a Cook Islands delegation to an international labour conference in Geneva didn't include worker and employer representatives.

The Cooks delegation had just two government representatives at the conference.

The committee received two objections - one from the Employers' group of the Conference and the other from International Trade Union Confederation complaining that the Cooks' delegation was incomplete.

The Cooks' government said costs were the key factor in them sending a small delegation.

The committee said without the participation of government, employer and worker representatives, the conference cannot function properly or attain its objectives.
