Netball Fiji appoints Brazel as new coach
01:00 am GMT+12, 17/12/2020, Fiji

Former assistant coach for the Queensland Firebirds, Jenny Brazel is the new Fiji Pearls coach.

Brazel was part of the successful Firebirds coaching team for both the ANZ Championship and Suncorp Super Netball from 2015-2019 and was responsible for the Firebirds attacking performance.

Netball Fiji President RubyAnn Sorovaki said Brazel’s current position with Netball Queensland and Netball Australia had enabled her to acquire a solid experience in all areas of high performance regarding the sport.

“In her coaching work, she has developed and implemented successful athlete-centred programs, building both a culture of performance and growth progression,” Sorovaki said.

“This is a major area of interest for Netball Fiji, given our aims to develop players and coaching pathways, improve our competition structure and build on developing the holistic athlete to ultimately improve our current world ranking.

“We are excited about Jenny joining the NF family soon and we look forward to supporting her coaching plans and the alignment she will bring to our overall strategic objectives both on and off the courts.

“With her wealth of knowledge in high performance coaching and as a specialist development coach for Netball Australia’s under-age squads, NF is optimistic the newly appointed coach will make a significant contribution to our athletes, our teams and our programmes.”

Meanwhile, Brazel said she was overwhelmed with her appointment and was looking forward to working with NF.

“It’s truly an honor and a privilege to be named as the new Fiji Pearls head coach,” she said.

“I am very excited to see where we can take the national program and also the development of players and coaches right across this beautiful country.

“When I look at Fiji, I see tremendous young players with so much promising netball talent, leading to a wonderful opportunity to develop and implement a highly successful world class program for all.”

Brazel said she was extremely grateful for the support of her own family and friends to pursue her netball coaching career and was looking forward to working with and becoming a part of the NF family.

The Australian national would commence in her role from February next year.
